Flatbed is for freight that will not go through a van door: steel coils, structural lumber, machinery, pipe, and construction materials. Loading is faster when a crane or forklift can come at the deck from any side.
Securement is written on the quote — tarps, chains, edge protection — so there is no argument at the shipper about what the driver is expected to do.
